I love these old school smokey yakiniku restaurants much more than established chains such as Haya and Gyukaku. I found out that the term for these old mom and pop shops is Taishu Yakiniku (大衆焼き肉). I was a member of a Taishu Yakiniku group on Facebook but it got hacked so I had to leave.

Before setting foot inside I had viewed Kado Mise (lit: Corner Shop) many times from the passenger side of my wife’s car as we drove through Nishinari Ward. The vintage Coca Cola sign always caught my eye, but it was destroyed in a typhoon that hit the area several years ago.

My wife and I strolled by earlier this year and decided to drop in. The prices are not cheap, but we had a nice meal by ordering harami, kimchi and a few other items. The food was delicious and it was worthing eating here for the atmosphere alone.
